Be Steady

In this video entitled A Weird View of Money, Dave Ramsey talked about how patience and self-control can greatly affect our financial decisions leading to financial peace and success.

I believe the benefits of patience and self-control does not only apply to our finances. It also affects every aspect of our lives.

Apostle Peter wrote, "His divine power has given us everything we need for life... he has given us his very great and precious promises... For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance;"? 2 Peter 1:1-6 ESV?(emphasis added)

Self-control is needed the most during our emotional heights. Without self-control, our knowledge is rendered useless and simply not usable during these times. Our judgement is clouded and we tend to do foolish things. We need people around us?who are accountable to us and?guide us?during this darkness of emotional cloud, no matter how brilliant we think we are.

He also?exhorts us to persevere (be steady) during these times. Most of the time, being steady means to keep the status quo and do nothing until such time that our?sanity is restored when we?can think better and make wiser decisions based on knowledge.

And how can we be steady? Its difficult to do nothing during these times when all we?want to do is to express our?feelings to relieve ourselves, attaining emotional comfort. Peter tells us?that we can be steady knowing that "His divine power has given us everything we need for life... he has given us his very great and precious promises..."? We have to remember His promises, be assured and be thankful.?Forbes recently reported?a research that gratitude encourages patience and self-control, which in turn can make us?more successful.

Peter concluded, "For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ." 2 Peter 1:8 ESV
